P1 factory destroyed by large fire

28 August 2009

The base of the P1 team was completely destroyed in a huge blaze at the outfit's Norfolk factory over the course of Thursday night, local reports have stated. The fire is believed to have completely obliterated several buildings, including the team's factory, and took over five and a half hours to be fully extinguished.

With the fire's cause still unknown, the inferno is believed to have started at around 7pm on Thursday night at the Oak Tree business park in Shropham. With firefighters having battled until 12:40am of Friday, the damage sustained is believed to be colossal.

"I went there this morning and the whole factory has gone," P1 Motorsport Director Roly Vincini told Eastern Daily Press. "It's all gone. It's all been melted to the ground. The whole race team is gone. We're struggling. I'm meeting with the guys today to tell them.

"I don't know what to say, every single thing is gone - ten years of photos and trophies and all the things you can't buy back, all completely melted. We've been up all night and now we're just trying to get ready for the next race; we're fortunate that the next race isn't until the 18th and we will be ready."
