The Draco team is in a positive frame of mind approaching 2009's first races in Barcelona this weekend; with a mix of the same driver line-up, a partnership with Force India F1 and a new look to the team, this season features of cocktail of features for the squad.
"We reflected a lot and finally decided to ask them to do another season with us," explained team manager Nadia Morini of her choice to retain drivers Bertrand Baguette and Marco Barba, who will be racing with a brand-new green, orange and white colour scheme this year. "We have the serenity of the green - the colour of the earth - the grit of the orange and the power of the white - the symbol of peace and union of two forces," Morini continued. "Yellow and blue will forever remain the symbol of Draco because they are part of a whole life, but decisions have been taken - regardless of the colours - for reasons related to the future, and to who is with us.
Morini refers to the team's collaboration with the Force India F1 team, which sport the colours of its country's flag. "Our goal is to win with grit, strength and love," she continued. "Only when I can no longer say this will we not compete on the track anymore, but today I still have so much strength inside and it is difficult to contain myself when I am at the circuit; let's see - our drivers know that they must win."
Expressing her desire for Draco to have as long a future as possible, Morini went on to talk of the team's new development programme for young drivers. "We have a plan, but we have to see how people will cooperate with us, even if the structures are what we want; the drivers included in the Draco school are always monitored, and we are sure that important results will come.
With the new Formula 2 and GP3 formulae appearing for 2009, series such as these, Formula BMW and GP2 are instantly attractive to young drivers hoping to climb the motorsport ladder towards the ultimate goal of Formula 1, although Morini still recognises the importance of the World Series by Renault category, and therefore the role of teams such as Dreyco. "Another route drivers can take is Renault National Championships, European Formula Renault, the World Series and then Formula One - it is the same effect," she explained. "I want to remind you of the words of Renault Director, Rémi Deconinck who, at a briefing in Barcelona, said that 'Renault was the first to want to make a chain for young drivers' - many categories have been created and finished, and we are still here."
