New Zealander Brendon Hartley has signed a deal with the Tech 1 team to take part in the first three rounds of the World Series by Renault 2009 season, starting in Barcelona this weekend.
Despite already having a deal to drive for Carlin in the F3 Euro Series, the 19-year-old Kiwi's short-term contract with Tech 1 will see him make appearances in Belgium and Monaco as well as Spain, joining Frenchman Charles Pic.

"Brendon will race in at least the first three events of the 2009 season with us," said team chief Simon Abadie. "Depending on his availability, he'll either continue with us for the rest of the year, or be replaced by another Red Bull driver."
Having already tested a Formula 1 car for the Austrian company, Hartley is gradually making his way to the F1 grid, and this weekend will be joining the likes of British Formula 3 champion Jaime Alguersuari, with whom he battled last year.
