Giedo celebrates birthday with pole!

He couldn't have wished for a better birthday present on Friday. Giedo van der Garde has qualified himself in pole position in the first qualifying session of the 2008 World Series by Renault season. Van der Garde already showed he was well on the pace in Thursday's practice sessions and will start Sunday's race from P1.

"Pole position is great!" said van der Garde. "The whole weekend has been going great really. We've been fastest in both sessions on Thursday and second fastest this morning. The car is going great and to start the season with pole position is truly fantastic.

"As the first eight positions in qualifying are turned around in the first race I will start Saturday's race from P8. But Sunday's race I will start from P1. I will focus on a podium finish in both races. The pole position already earned me four points so that is obviously a fantastic start to the weekend."
